Everything you need to know ahead of the 2025 WorldSBK pre-season

The 2025 World Superbike Championship is fast approaching, and the series is set to deliver another season of thrilling action. Motorsport Week has put together an in-depth guide on everything you need to know ahead of the 2025 WorldSBK pre-season.

2024 WorldSBK champion Toprak Razgatlioglu’s title defence will commence at the season opener in Phillip Island, Australia, on February 21st.

The Turkish rider aims to further solidify his place in history by becoming the fourth rider to win three or more championships in the series.

Although Razgatlioglu was the superior rider in 2024, the series still featured eight different winners. The 14 teams will now focus on challenging the BMW rider across the 12-round championship.

Teams already tested 2025-spec machinery at the end of 2024 at Jerez and Aragon, but developments have continued over the winter before returning at the end of January for more evaluation.

WorldSBK officially returns for the first round of testing during the week at Jerez on the 22nd-23rd of January and Portimao on the 28th-29th of January.

After this, the paddock travels down under to Phillip Island, Australia, for the final round of testing the week before the season opener commences.

2025 Off-season testing calendar

22nd and 23rd January – Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto

28th and 29th January – Autodromo Internacional do Algarve

17th and 18th February – Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit

Minor WorldSBK regulation changes imposed for 2025 season

After the 2024 season ended, the SBK Commission imposed multiple minor regulation changes for the next season.

The WorldSBK class will now be restricted on how much teams can test its bike. This has been set in order to reduce costs on development.

A new logistical measure is introduced to reduce the number of tyres used throughout the weekend.

Fuel flow limitations: From 2025, all manufacturers’ starting fuel flow limit is set at 47 Kg/H.

Marking a new “virgin” frame: WorldSBK teams have been notified that this is allowed for free. It has to be of the correct model code registered at the FIM homologation listing. Each manufacturer must declare the new marking to the FIM technical director before the season starts.

Lastly, like in MotoGP, teams looking to attach winglets or aerodynamic appendices “must have a maximum deflection of 10mm, when a vertical load of 50 N is applied downwards with a 20 mm radius spherical steel indenter.”
